Matthew Hoare's Auto Hoare is a 'live-electro robot band', comprising a set of automated musical instruments that create electronic sounds through the use of programmed mechanics. The central instrument of the group is The Thwopper, a physical electro-drum machine that produces the central rhythm, and conducts the ensemble by providing a stable clock. Surrounding The Thwopper are tuneable electric motors and screeching braking motors. The motors are programmed electronically to coordinate into a visually engaging mechatronic-electro-dance band.
